4 days in Tokyo: The ultimate Guide

We had the chance to visit Tokyo for a few days in January 2024. It was our first time in this city. We were immediately charmed by this country so different and inviting. In this blog, we will share all our insights to maximize your 4 days in Tokyo.

Arrival in Tokyo

There's a good chance you'll arrive in Tokyo via Narita Airport, which is located just under 70 km from downtown. You can access public transportation directly from the airport.

Since you don't have much time, we suggest opting for the high-speed train (about $25 per person).

We recommend buying your tickets directly at the station. Be aware that you need to have cash for the majority of public transportation in Japan.

The journey to downtown takes about 45 minutes.

Beware of Potential Jet Lag

We were coming from Canada with a +14 hour time difference. If you are in a similar situation, prepare to wake up very early in the morning.

We were very surprised to see that Tokyo wakes up rather late. Indeed, most activities open around 10 am (except for the fish market).

Therefore, we prioritized walking and exploring the city until the points of interest opened.

Tokyo is a Touristy City

We advise you to visit tourist activities as early in the morning as possible to minimize the number of tourists. See the two photos, one taken around 8 am and the other around noon!
